Lieutenant Hurley served in the military, so today was extra special for him; "Anytime you play good, it's great; right? but certainly, there's special days of the year for our country, and being the only person playing this week who has served in the military, it adds kind of stuff. So it's kind of pretty cool, I guess, to shoot seven under on the Fourth of July." "Just kind of fell in love with the Naval Academy, and the tradition, honor, courage, commitment, all the ideals and the whole place really, it was definitely the right school for me." "I obviously became a very nice player in college, but it wasn't like one of those sure things, like some of the guys out here who were pretty much going to be out here since they were 17 years old. That said, golf was completely a secondary kind of thing. I was a naval officer first, and if you ask the people that I served with, they'd say that's for sure." Kevin Chappell and Chris Stroud are tied in second place, at -8 under par for the competition. Chris was full of praise for Billy; "It's awesome, he went to the military and took off three, four, five years of golf and comes out and gets his game back and gets on TOUR. There's a lot to be said about that. He couldn't be a more solid guy." As good a day as it was for Billy, the low round of the day went to Troy Matteson recording a -9 under par 61, which moved him up to fourth place at -7 under par for the competition. But you can not take away Lieutenant Hurley 'pride in his achievement on Independence Day, the 238th Birthday of the U.S.A.
