The writing's on the ball Jim and the 59 Ball / Getty Images Jim shot a record breaking -12 under par 59 to catch Brandt Snedeker at the top of the leaderboard at the half-way stage of the BMW Championship. Play in the second round had been backed up late in the BMW Championship, forcing the trio of Jim Furyk, Gary Woodland and Jason Dufner to cool their heels and wait a while. At the time Jim was just two shots away from a record breaking 59, it was not good timing. Jim said of the delay; " We hadn't waited all day, it kind of broke up the rhythm. The nerves kicked in a little bit. I'm not a smell-the-roses type of guy, but how many times am I going to shoot 59 in my life? I'm going to enjoy this one a little bit, and I'll have a big, fat smile on my face when I go to bed. But I'll have to calm down later and realize that I've got myself in contention in a golf tournament." Jim needed  to play his last nine holes in 4 under to shoot -12 under par 59 , caddie Fluff Cowan knew it was possible; "I thought to myself, ‘there's something happening here." This was just an amazing day, not just for Jim, but for golf. It just goes to prove that anything is possible. Brandt Snedeker could not believe it, this was his response when told of the score; "What the heck, are you serious? There's no way." Zach Johnson summed it up; " That is ridiculous" At the end of the round Jim and Brandt are tied at the top with -11 under par. Zach Johnson is in third place at -8 under par, and a whole host of players at -6 under par. Tiger Woods slipped back with a second round of +1 over par 72, missing some very short putts along the way. There are some big names in the lower half of the leaderboard, but none bigger that Rory McIlroy, who is dead last at the moment. It seems that there is nothing Rory can do to right the ship at the moment. Congratulations to Jim Furyk, I hope this record round will not unhinged his victory charge, I am sure Brandt will not just lie down and roll over.
