Ricoh British Womens Open, Play Suspended. August 03 2013
Extremely high winds caused the suspension of play at the Ricoh British Womens Open
on the Old Course at St. Andrews
There was a wind gust of 40 mph, which resulted in at least five players almost simultaneously calling for rulings due to balls moving on the green. The officials made a decision to halt play, that was around 1230, and the whole days play was suspended later at 1800, and will resume tomorrow morning at 0550.
Susan Simpson, LGU Head of Operations announced that if needs be they will move the restart to Monday;
" It's still going to be windy tomorrow. Not hopefully as windy as it's been today, but there's no let‑up in it. So tomorrow morning, it's still going to be very breezy and equally difficult conditions. This is a major championship and every endeavor will be made to finish 72 holes. So if we need to go to Monday, then we'll go to Monday.”
There is no change at the top of the leaderboard, as the tournament have yet to tee off in their third rounds.
