South African Womens Open. Another Weather Hit Event. April 26 2013

 Marianne Skarpnord / Getty Images Marianne was declared the winner of the South African Women’s Open on Sunday after yet another absolutely brutal day of weather. With only the first round having been completed on Friday before the rain hit, the tournament was always under pressure to beat a freak run of weather. Saturday’s play was completely washed out, with only a few holes being played on Sunday before rain caused another delay, which was followed by gale force winds. The forecast for Monday was predicting equally strong winds, so the “It’s not the way we all would have liked to end the tournament, but we all understand how difficult the weather was. It was a very challenging week for everybody, and tournament promoters took the decision to declare the winner based on the first round scores alone. Marianne was declared the winner for her first round score of  69, a one shot victory, Marianne said everyone agreed it was not the way they would have wanted it to end; “It’s not the way we all would have liked to end the tournament, but we all understand how difficult the weather was. It was a very challenging week for everybody" Let's hope for better weather for the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open, beginning 9th May.
