Lydia Ko won the U.S. Women's Championship at The Country Club, her winning advantage over American Jaye Marie Green, 18, of Boca Raton, Fla., was 3 and 1, in Sunday’s final match to win the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur at the 6,512-yard, par-72 course. Lydia said she was amazed at her first win in America; " I haven't won a tournament in the States before, so it's good.  I think I've won one tournament in Australia like internationally. It's pretty amazing, and this tournament is classified as the top amateur event for me, so it means a lot.I've played such good golf, and it was hard coming up and it wasn't easy in any matches or any shots. It means a lot.  I think hopefully it will mean a lot to New Zealand because I'm the next winner of the US Amateur after Danny Lee. It's good to win it, and my mum before told me if you win I'll get you to meet my favorite Korean movie star ,Ji Sub So, the next day.  And I was like, oh, yeah.  So after my round finishes, it was like, okay, I'm going to meet him.  So I think that's the most happiest I am for now." Lydia still has both feet firmly on the ground, insisting education comes before a professional golfing career; " I want to go to college, so turning professional isn't a priority. There are so many things to learn as an amateur.' Congratulations Lydia from everyone here in New Zealand.
